Day 7: Kaza to Hikkim, Komic, Langza and Local Market Exploration
Overnight Stay in Kaza
Today promises to be one of the most exciting and memorable days of our Spiti journey, as we explore some of the highest inhabited places in the world.
After breakfast, we set out for a day of high-altitude village hopping. Our first stop is Hikkim, a small, charming village known for its incredible claim to fame — it houses the world’s highest post office.
Here, you will have a rare opportunity to send a postcard to your loved ones, stamped from this remote corner of the world. Imagine the joy when your friends or family receive a message that has traveled all the way from the Himalayas.
Next, we drive up to Komic, officially one of the world’s highest motorable villages. At around 4,513 meters, life here moves at a different rhythm, untouched by the rush of the cities. Visit the Tangyud Monastery, one of Spiti’s most significant monasteries, and soak in the peaceful energy that fills the village.
From Komic, we descend towards Langza, often called the “village guarded by Buddha.”
As you approach, you will be welcomed by the sight of a giant Buddha statue sitting atop a hill, watching over the entire valley. The landscapes here are wide open and surreal, offering fantastic opportunities for photography. Langza is also famous for its fossils — millions of years ago, this region was submerged under the Tethys Sea, and even today, locals sometimes find marine fossils embedded in the soil.
After exploring these picturesque villages, we return to Kaza by late afternoon.
The rest of the evening is free for you to wander through Kaza’s local market — the perfect place to shop for unique souvenirs, woolen clothing, handmade jewelry, Buddhist artifacts, and more. You can also relax at a cozy café, sampling some local dishes or enjoying a cup of warm butter tea.
It’s a relaxed, inspiring day that lets you experience the slower, more soulful side of life in the mountains.

Send a postcard from the world’s highest post office at Hikkim

Things to Carry for High-Altitude Village Visits (Hikkim, Komic, Langza)
Exploring the world’s highest villages is an incredible experience, but the high altitude and strong mountain sun mean a little preparation goes a long way.
Here’s a simple checklist to help you stay comfortable during the day:
1. Warm Clothing:
Even if the sun is out, it can get windy and chilly at high altitudes.
-
Carry a light jacket or a windcheater
-
Wear layers so you can adjust easily
2. Sun Protection:
The sun is strong at 4,000+ meters.
-
Sunglasses with UV protection
-
A good quality sunscreen (SPF 50+)
-
A cap or hat to protect from direct sun
3. Water and Snacks:
-
Carry a reusable water bottle (stay hydrated)
-
Light snacks like energy bars, dry fruits, or chocolates
4. Personal Essentials:
-
Lip balm and moisturizer (the air is dry)
-
Personal medicines if you have any altitude sensitivity
-
A small day backpack to keep your hands free while exploring
5. Camera/Phone:
The landscapes are surreal — you’ll definitely want to capture memories. Make sure your phone/camera is charged, and maybe keep a small power bank handy.
6. Easy Footwear:
Wear comfortable walking shoes — the villages are best explored on foot over uneven paths.
Important Tip:
Walk slowly, breathe deeply, and enjoy the silence. The beauty of these places is not just in their landscapes, but in their peaceful rhythm of life.
Upcoming Highlight of Spiti Valley Tour : Beautiful Walk to Chandratal Lake Trek Experience Time
Day 8: Kaza to Chandratal via Key Monastery and Chicham Bridge
Overnight Stay at Chandratal Camp
Today is one of the most beautiful and exciting days of our journey, as we leave behind the town of Kaza and head deeper into the magic of Spiti’s highlands.
After breakfast, we begin the day with a visit to Key Monastery, Spiti’s largest and most iconic monastery, perched dramatically on a hilltop overlooking the valley. As we step inside, you’ll immediately feel the peaceful energy of this ancient place. Explore the beautifully decorated prayer halls, the old murals, and if we’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the monks going about their daily rituals. Don’t miss the panoramic view from the monastery terrace — the endless Spiti Valley stretching out below is a sight to remember.
From Key, we continue our journey toward Chicham Bridge. This is not just any bridge — it’s one of Asia’s highest suspension bridges, hanging 4,145 meters above sea level. As we drive across, you’ll see deep gorges beneath and endless mountain landscapes around — a thrilling yet stunning experience that’s a favorite for photography enthusiasts.
After crossing Chicham, we make our way toward the Kunzum Pass (subject to weather conditions). Standing at around 4,551 meters, Kunzum offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and colorful prayer flags fluttering in the strong mountain winds. It’s a traditional spot where travelers often stop to seek blessings for a safe onward journey.
From Kunzum, we descend toward one of Spiti’s crown jewels — Chandratal Lake, lovingly known as the “Moon Lake” because of its crescent shape.
Vehicles stop a short distance away, and from there, it’s an easy 10-15 minute walk to the lake. As you approach, the crystal-clear waters reflecting the surrounding mountains create a surreal sight — it almost feels like walking into a painting.
The evening is yours to relax by the lake, soaking in the changing hues as the sun dips behind the peaks. This is truly one of those places where time seems to stand still. Later, we head back to our cozy campsite near Chandratal.
Tonight, you’ll experience something unforgettable — camping under a sky full of a million stars, surrounded by the silence of the high Himalayas.
A magical end to a day that captures the true spirit of Spiti.
Camping Tips for Chandratal Lake
Spending a night near Chandratal is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience — but keep in mind, you are camping at over 4,200 meters in the Himalayas.
Here’s what to know so you are comfortable and can fully enjoy this magical night:
Stay Comfort:
You will be staying in comfortable Swiss tents, complete with cozy bedding and attached bathrooms — a rare luxury at such high altitudes. The tents are weather-proof and provide good insulation against the nighttime cold.
Weather:
Nights at Chandratal can get quite chilly, even in peak summer (temperatures can drop close to 0°C or below).
Carry a good quality jacket, warm thermals, and woolen socks to stay cozy inside the tent.
Essential Carry Items:
-
Warm layers (thermals, jackets, gloves, beanies)
-
Torch or headlamp (even though camps are well-lit)
-
Personal toiletries
-
Power bank (electricity backup can be limited)
-
Reusable water bottle (to stay hydrated)
-
Some snacks (energy bars, chocolates for late night cravings)
Health Tip:
Due to the high altitude, it is normal to feel a bit short of breath initially. Walk slowly, stay hydrated, and avoid heavy exertion after sunset.
We also ensure basic first-aid and oxygen support is available at the campsite if needed.
Experience Tip:
Step outside your tent after dinner for stargazing — Chandratal is one of the best places for a natural stargazing experience. With no city lights around, the sky lights up with millions of stars, offering an unforgettable night under the Himalayan sky.
Bucket List Experiences for Day 8:
-
Visit the historic Key Monastery, the heart of Spiti’s spiritual life
-
Drive across the thrilling Chicham Bridge
-
Cross the majestic Kunzum Pass (weather permitting)
-
Short hike to the stunning Chandratal Lake

Overnight Stay in Manali
After a peaceful night under the starry skies at Chandratal, we start our journey back towards Manali after breakfast. But today’s drive is much more than just getting from one point to another — it’s a visual treat every step of the way.
As we cross over the Kunzum Pass, you’ll catch your last glimpses of the raw, untouched beauty of Spiti Valley. Slowly, the landscape changes as we enter the Lahaul Valley — a lush, green contrast to Spiti’s barren charm.
Our first highlight today is a stop at Sissu, a picture-perfect Himalayan village straight out of a postcard. Nestled along the banks of the Chandra River, Sissu is known for its cascading waterfalls, vast meadows, and peaceful vibes. It’s a great place to stretch your legs, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and grab a few beautiful photographs.

The rest of the evening is yours — relax at the property, explore Manali’s bustling streets, or maybe visit the famous Mall Road for some local shopping and delicious food.

Day 10: Manali to Delhi/Chandigarh | Day Journey with Scenic Enroute Exploration
After a hearty breakfast in Manali, we begin our final drive back to Delhi or Chandigarh. But this isn’t just a travel day — today’s journey is packed with beautiful landscapes, charming towns, and opportunities for a few last adventures in the lap of the Himalayas.
We first drive through the Kullu Valley, known for its apple orchards, pine forests, and the Beas River flowing alongside the road. As we descend, we pass through Kullu town, famous for its colorful Dussehra festival and traditional handwoven shawls. If time permits, you can explore the local Kullu market for some authentic souvenirs.
Further down, we reach Mandi, often called the “Varanasi of the Hills” because of its 80+ old stone temples. The town sits beautifully on the banks of the Beas River, offering a glimpse into Himachal’s rich heritage. En route, we can stop for a quick tea break or stretch our legs while soaking in the historic vibe.
Continuing along the scenic highway, we travel through Sundernagar, famous for its large artificial lake and beautiful views. It’s a perfect shortstop to admire the stillness of the water against the backdrop of hills.
Adventure lovers, get ready — somewhere between Mandi and Bilaspur, depending on the group’s interest and time, we can also stop for water adventure activities like:
-
River Rafting in the Beas River (near Pandoh and Aut regions)

As we move forward, the landscape changes — from rugged mountains to gentle hills, and eventually to the plains. We drive past Bilaspur, known for the huge Gobind Sagar reservoir created by the Bhakra Dam, and finally cross into the plains of Punjab/Haryana by evening.
